About Angela

My first experiences as a doula came before I even knew what a doula was. Out of necessity, I had the opportunity to help a friend give birth and discovered that I was able to help with the process in a deeply meaningful way. This lead to helping another friend through pregnancy and labor, then another, and another. It was done purely out of love, friendship and the appreciation for being part of such an incredible and life altering experience. I still hadn’t considered that it could be a career path but after helping my mother navigate through dementia and end of life, I realized that my ability to act as a support and guide spanned a wide range from the most joyous moments to challenges and struggles that no one should go through alone. With this realization, it was clear that I had been on the path to becoming a doula, and in fact had been acting as a doula for many years when I decided to take the next steps by completing my doula certification.

+ - More about Angela

Aside from being a doula, I’m a lifelong fine artist and seasoned graphic designer. I began my academic career at Bowling Green State University in Ohio, where I received a merit scholarship and was invited to study abroad at Studio Arts College International (SACI) in Florence, Italy. After completing my BFA, I relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where I began my study of Graphic Design at the Art Institute of Phoenix. In 2008, I made the big move to Los Angeles, where I currently live with my husband, Eric and all of our amazing pets.

I like to call our home “The Farm”. We have a bunny, a rescue dog, and a sweet kitty who found his way to us and just never left (they tend to do that). I am an avid gardener and I have come to terms with the fact that I have more plants than I know what to do with, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Healthy eating is extremely important to me and cooking is a big part of our daily life. I believe very strongly in the idea that food is a healer and have been vegetarian for over 14 years. I have an extreme amount of compassion for all living things and will absolutely go out of my way to even relocate spiders!

A day at the beach? Yes please! Roller skating? Absolutely! Disco dancing? I’m in! Beauty treatments and self care nights with the girls? Whenever I get the chance!

Services

Prenatal Visits

Building a relationship with you and your partner is my top priority during the prenatal stage.

  • These visits take place in the comfort of your own home.
  • The first prenatal visit occurs around the 32nd week of pregnancy; the second around week 37.
  • These visits are designed to dive deep into your desires for your birth, to unpack fears, to demystify anything that may be hindering your confidence.
  • The goal is that by the end of these sessions, you will trust in your ability to birth and make the decisions right for you and your baby, and that I as your doula will have a deep understanding on how best to support you.

The goal of these visits is always to enrich our connection, establish trust, and build rapport.

As soon you hire me as your doula, I am available to you at all times to answer your questions, address your concerns, and identify possible solutions when challenges arise.

  • I serve a wide spectrum of clients, from those seeking unmedicated births to those who may require more medical intervention.
  • I attend home births, and births at birth centers and hospitals.
  • Once in labor, I will be present with you from the moment you ask me to join you, until you are comfortable with your baby in your arms.
  • I will adjust the environment as needed to help create and maintain a tranquil feeling while constantly drawing on my knowledge, experience and intuition to provide physical and emotional support.
  • Making sure to always suggest new positions, movement, breathing and relaxation, my goal is to help facilitate the progress of your labor.
  • I will provide hands on support such as massage, counter pressure, and aroma therapy all while ensuring that the expecting partner has the main support role, if applicable and desired.
  • I will provide reassurance and perspective, along with evidence-based information regarding your current birth options, and ensure that you have all the tools you need to make informed decisions about your care.

As part of your birth team, I bring knowledge about the birth process, pain management solutions, and a calm, nurturing presence to help make your birth a positive experience, tailored to your specific needs.

Postpartum Follow Up

+ - Click for more information

The postpartum follow-up visit is an opportunity to reflect, assess and identify any needs you may have moving forward.

  • This is also the best time for me to gauge how you are feeling, not only physically, but emotionally as well.
  • Most clients like to talk about their birth experience. This is the perfect time to ask me questions, get clarifications, relive what it was like to finally hold your baby, and anything else you may want to talk about.
  • This is also a great time to talk about any referrals that you may need. I have access to many different practitioners in our area – both medical and holistic.
  • If you are experiencing any lingering pain in your body from pregnancy, labor, or birth I can hep direct you on how to best help eleviate these issues.

I love having this last appointment with my birth clients as a way to wrap up care, and move you forward into your postpartum weeks ahead.

Testimonials

Angela was an amazing support. Not only for me but for my husband as well. As a doula myself, I knew the techniques and what to do but at the end of the day, I was looking for the support and reassurance that I was strong enough to have the birth I deserved. Angela didn't leave our side the entire time, suggesting different movements and reminding me how good I was doing. I had a wonderful birth experience and I thank Angela for being there as part of this experience.

Angie exceeded my expectations across the board as my doula.  I'm so grateful to have had her as my doula for my first pregnancy and delivery.  I felt immediately at ease the moment I decided to work with her.  She is super responsive and went above and beyond to make herself available. I felt comforted and supportive throughout the entire process leading up to my 41 hour labor.  When my water broke at 36 weeks I was freaking out and Angie was there to calmly hold my hand each step of the way.  Angie is not only very knowledgeable and resourceful, but she is the most kind and giving soul.  You can tell that she is truly passionate about this work.  Both my husband and I couldn't have had such a successful delivery experience without her by our side.

If/when we have another baby, we would include Angela on our team again. She has become part of our village and we appreciate her continued love and support (and so does our daughter, Amelia).

"Your presence was such a gift. To have you there by my side was incredibly helpful, supportive and empowering. You were made for this, Angie."

"My experience with Angela was calming and supportive. When I felt uncomfortable and irritated, she was there to keep me focused and made sure I had relief while keeping me grounded. She was soattentive & gentle. My beautiful friend has a gift that needs to be shared during and after pregnancy."

"I couldn’t have chosen a better person to be by my side through the excruciating labor pains, contractions, walking the hospital hallways…she wiped my brow and held my hand, as I pushed my sweet girl into this world. I am forever grateful that she was there to support me."
